EDITORIAL

Just a year ago Convention & Event was just an idea and although my team and I had been well-prepared, we didn’t really know if it was going to work. We started this edition with the desire to publish a magazine that would be a useful tool and resource of information for all the people in the MICE industry but also a useful guide for the professionals of the opposite side, those who organize meetings and conferences for their companies, associations, etc but they don’t know how and they’re trying to find the right associate for this task. During the last year we’ve constantly evolved our content to adapt the changing times-to find out what is important to you and your success and we have worked hard to provide the best and most useful articles in the industry, the latest news and innovations and most important, we hope that we’ve managed to stir a little bit everyone’s consciousness for the environment and the importance of green meetings.
So much has happened in the world during the past year and many of them were not welcome. We experienced the worst economic crisis of the century and watched speechless huge companies collapse overnight. People lost their jobs, their houses and millions of people are still living in a constant fear about what will happen in the future. After that it was the Swine flu that caused more panic in the world. Fear has dominated our lives and effected MICE industry in many ways, cancellations, staff cutbacks etc. But now the worst is over and we are already watching the global economy pick up again. As for the flu, people are starting to see it in a perspective. During this difficult year we gained the trust of many people in this industry who believed in us and to this magazine, people who believed that we delivered something new and fresh to their business and I personally thank them for this. We’ve connected with many of them face to face and many others online. I strongly believe in human connections and the relationships we built in the past can allow us now to find new opportunities and success despite the hard times.
My promise to you in the second year of this magazine and beyond is that we will continue our efforts to take it one step ahead, to find the best expert sources to produce stories of substance you can really use and finally make a difference to this expanding industry.
